Gambian Players in Europa League: Maudo scores despite elimination whilst injured Joof sails through.
Gambian born defender Maudo Lamin Jarjue scored his first goal for Austria Vienna in their 5-2 lost on aggregate to Apollon Limasol.
Maudo gave the Austria based team the lead in the 18th minutes with a powerful header before Apollon ralied back to win the game.
The game was Maudo’s third so far this season and he was pleased with his goal though he lamented about the final scores.
“Scoring in the Europa League is a good feeling but the results was not what we wanted. Now the hard work continues.” Maudo stated after the game.
Maudo who is uncapped at national team level is eligible to play for Gambia as well as Guinea Bissau.
He was among the seven African players who were on the score sheet in the Europa League on Thursday.
Elsewhere, Ali Sowe and CSKA Sofia were also knocked out by ukrainan outfit Zorya Luhansk courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline.
Injured Gaira Joof was not in action as his Israeli club Bnei Yehuda made it to the final stages of the Europa League.
